After a disappointing start to the season with a draw against Waterford, Liverpool Crystal Palace Player Ratings found themselves at home to Crystal Palace hoping for their first league win of the season. Jurgen Klopp made a number of changes to his line-up to bring on the likes of Daniel Sturridge and James Milner but his side struggled in the first half, with a particularly disciplined display from Palace.

Klavan may not be Liverpool's first-choice center-back but he will be a big part of the long season ahead and this performance is a sign that he can be trusted when asked by his manager.

The Cameroonian won 6 of the 8 major doubles he competed in and was confident on the field as he frustrated Palace with a mix of tackles and interceptions. Although he seemed to lose some control in the latter stages of the game, overall it was a very convincing performance from the man and he will be keen to make up for it in the future.

Liverpool Simon Mignolet - 6

The game against Waterford was easier than ever for the Belgium keeper, especially as Liverpool's back line kept Palace's attacks at bay for long periods of the game. On the two occasions, he was called into action, the former Sunderland man did well to stay in Palace's denial.

Andrew Robertson - 8

Liverpool hasn't shown any real potential in a while and if Robertson's performance on the night was any indication, he's here to stay. The Scotland international was the standout player in Liverpool's lackluster first half, creating the necessary attacking threat from the flanks while ensuring Palace's attack had no space or time to work the ball.

Ragnar Klavan - 6

The Estonian player came into the side at the expense of the tireless Dejan Lovren and fought to the max. For the Reds, however, he was a calm presence, effectively addressing any threat in the air and on the ground, while also showing good chemistry with Robertson down the left.

Joel Matip - 7

The likes of Christian Benteke, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Sule Kaikai thrive in the air, and Liverpool's aerial sensibility requires them to take their socks off in that department and Matip has done the same for example.

Joe Gomez - 6

The young England defender was brought in at right-back by Klopp on the evening and it's fair to say he didn't let his manager down. He was diligent as he pressed the Palace attack into space and ensured he contributed to his side's attacks from the right. He ended the evening with a good cross into the penalty area which Salah couldn't convert.

James Milner - 5

After spending last season at left-back for the side, the Englishman was moved to his preferred central midfield position for the game. While he was tidy with his passing and also put in some decent crosses from corners, he was wanting in the creative department and this could be something that could force Klopp to put him in a different role.

• TW: Allison - 6/10 - After the first hit in the first half, she goes big to stop Zaha.
• RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6/10 - Played a lot of his check passes but not enough pinpoint crosses.
• CB: Nate Phillips - 5/10 - Zaha exploits Liverpool's high line for Palace opener. Zaha and Ayu looked a bit exposed whenever they walked up.
• CB: Virgil van Dijk - 6/10 - Balanced enough. There wasn't enough pace to catch Zaha, but Palace caught most of what he threw at him.
• LB: Andy Robertson - 5/10 - Brought on after the hour and didn't have much success going forward against Clyne and Ward.
• CM: Harvey Elliott - 8/10 - Liverpool's attacks looked like a real threat and continued to flow freely.
• CM: Fabinho - 7/10 - Left for dead by Eaz for Palace goal. When the Reds went down to ten players, you had to be extra careful.

• CM: James Milner - 7/10 - Could have found the net in the first minute had he not broken wildly over the top. 
• RW: Mohamed Salah - 6/10 - Played a more constructive role and gave his teammates a lot of chances. 
• ST: Darwin Nunez - 2/10 - Hit if well placed on the previous post. 
• LW: Luis Diaz - 9/10 - Sweeps all around the flank, produces turns, and always looks for the ball. 
• Sub: Jordan Henderson (63' for Milner) - 6/10 - Earned his brave lead during a difficult last 30.
• Sub: Joe Gomez (63' for Phillips) - 6/10 - With a knock on the bench but was able to replace the unsteady Phillips.
• Sub: Kostas Simikas (63 for Robertson) - 5/10 - Penalty by Klopp for a poor cross.
• Sub: Fabio Carvalho (Elliott from 79') - 6/10 - Almost scored a surprise win for Liverpool but the effort from the distance was wide.

Jurgen Klopp - 6/10 - Had a tough hand with his injured center-back but failed to fire up the attacking line in the first home game of the season.
